OUR STORY

My name is Carlo, and I am the owner of Masseria Specula. As a child, I loved exploring the Apulian countryside, often venturing with friends into abandoned farmhouses like Masseria Specula, which dates back to 1611. I felt a special connection to this particular masseria, perched on a small hill with sweeping views of the sea. To me, masserias have always symbolised heritage and deep cultural roots, and watching so many fall into ruin inspired a dream: to one day restore one with respect and authenticity.

In 2023, that dream became a reality when I acquired Masseria Specula and undertook a meticulous restoration, preserving every original feature and architectural detail. All materials used mirrored those from the time it was first built, and the interiors were furnished with heirlooms passed down through generations—many found in my grandparents’ cellars.

The surrounding 20 hectares, once Mediterranean woodland, had been cleared for agriculture, but we are now working to restore the native ecosystem. Each winter, we plant trees to gradually bring back the original woodland.
